Our Wilmington Chapter

BoiseBits Kids Run Club has had such STRONG impact on the Boise, Idaho community that we decided to bring a small chapter of our program to Wilmington, North Carolina!

Our Wilmington chapter uses our same BoiseBits empowerment running program for kids but with a focus on ages 2-9.  We teach resilience, integrity, teamwork and self-confidence by transforming traditional RUNNING games and AGILITY drills into powerful bite-sized life lessons.  Kids are outdoors getting exercise, having FUN, and building strength of character.  Above all, we are teaching kids to always try their hardest, to never give up and believe in the power of "I CAN!"

For more details on our curriculum and 8 empowerment principles, click on the "More Info" main menu tab.  Our goal is to teach kids that life is it not about being better than others- its you vs. you!! And with this mindset, we have no limits!  For class options for our Wilmington upcoming season, click the button below.

Kelly Thompson, Run Club Coach

Kelly was born in Williamsburg, Virginia, but spent the majority of her childhood in Charlotte, North Carolina with an active and nature loving family. Her youthful enthusiasm for physical activity saw her participating in both cross country and soccer throughout middle and high school, nurturing a passion that would shape much of her life's direction. Pursuing higher education, she attended UNC Charlotte, where she graduated with degrees in History and Education. This academic journey led her to a fulfilling six-year career as an educator, working across both elementary and high school levels. Beyond the classroom, she embraced the roles of soccer and cross country coach, finding immense joy in guiding young athletes. Married to Ben, they are blessed with three active and sweet children: Harper, Jeremiah, and Bodie, which she now stays home with as a full time homeschool mom. Together, they share a family love for learning and the great outdoors, a love she is eager to share with others.

Her running career began with a spirited dash in the second grade, sparking a lifelong love with the sport. Since then, she has embraced every opportunity to lace up and run, competing in a diverse range of events from 5Ks to ultra marathons, with a special fondness for trail races. Running has been more than just a physical activity for her; it has been a journey of self-discovery and growth, impacting her mentally, physically, and spiritually. The thrill of competition, the solitude of training runs, and the camaraderie of fun runs have all contributed to the profound and positive influence running has had on her life. It's a passion that has provided her with resilience, strength, and a deep sense of fulfillment.

Now, stepping into the role of a BoiseBits coach in Wilmington, she is thrilled to share her passion for running with a younger generation. Her goal is to ignite a love for running in the hearts of children and to help them build confidence as individuals. She believes in the power of running to teach kids that they are strong, mighty, and can do hard things, the foundation of the BoiseBits program. It is a privilege to be part of their journey, helping to shape resilient and confident individuals through the transformative power of running. Wilma Rudolph, an Olympic track and field champion, said "Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion: The potential for greatness lives within each of us."
